A man charged with the murder of his wife has appeared in court on Thursday. Her body was found in a suitcase.
Ashwin Daudia, 50, is appearing in court accused of murdering his ex wife Kiran Daudia, 46. Her body was found in a suitcase in an alley.
The couple were married for twenty years and were in the process of selling their family home following their divorce. They have two sons.
A neighbour found the suitcase containing her body after she had been reported missing a few days before by one of her children. Her home has been sealed off by police and forensic officers are working inside.
A school friend of Kiran said, “They’ve arrested her ex-husband. They were married for years but they divorced in around 2015. She had started using her maiden name and was trying to get on with her life. She was a wonderful, beautiful person and a devoted mother to her boys“.
In a statement her family said, “Kiran was a much loved mum, daughter, sister and auntie, and she will be deeply missed by us all. We are all in shock about her death and her family are all absolutely heartbroken”.
At Leicester Magistrates’ Court, Ashwin Daudia was charged with murder.
Prosecutor Sukhy Basi said, “The defendant faces an allegation of murder. The deceased being the ex-wife of the defendant. The couple have been married for some time. They have two children”.
The prosecutor told the court they were selling the home to Kiran’s sister. She added, “Half the proceedings will go to the defendant and half to the deceased. On the day in question, she was classed as a missing person. The son reported her missing to the police.”
Her family were in court for the appearance. Mr Daudia will be making a bail application at Leicester Crown Court tomorrow.
