Please let me speak to my daughter: Birth mother of Angelina Jolie’s daughter Zahara begs

The biological mother of Angelina Jolie’s adopted Ethiopian daughter Zahara has begged the Hollywood A lister to allow her to talk to her child.

Mentewab Dawit Lebiso issued a desperate plea to the actress following her split from fellow superstar Brad Pitt, saying that she wanted to be part of the 12 year old’s life. The poverty stricken mum said that she hoped one day to meet her daughter again after giving her up because she could not afford to raise her. However, she said she would settle right now for the opportunity to speak to her.

Living in poverty

Ms Lebiso said she was not threatening to try to take her daughter back, but that she wanted her to know that she was still alive, and she wanted to be able to speak to her on the telephone. With her life a stark contrast to that enjoyed by the Jolie-Pitts, she said that she knew Zahara had everything she could need and wish for, adding that Angelina had been more of a mother to her than she had because Zahara has been with the actress since she was a tiny baby. However, Ms Lebiso said she still desperately missed her daughter. She lives on £15 per month in a home without running water or a toilet.

She revealed that not a day goes by that she does not think about her and long to hear or see her. Ms Lebiso, 31, lives in central Ethiopia, far from any of the tourism attractions and the capital Addis Ababa.

She said that she was very proud of Zahara, who she said had grown into a beautiful young woman. Ms Lebiso has not been in contact with her biological daughter since she was adopted by Angelina when she was six months old. It is understood that when Angelina adopted the little girl, she was told her parents had died from Aids.
