Simon Cowell praises grieving Louis Tomlinson for bravely performing following the death of his mum

Heartbroken Louis Tomlinson could be seen fighting back tears after he took to the stage for the X Factor final, just a few days after his mother lost her battle against leukaemia.

One Direction singer Louis announced on Friday that he had lost his beloved mum Johannah Deakin. The 24-year-old was already scheduled to appear on the show before his mum died.

He decided he would still carry on to perform Just Hold On, his latest track with Steve Aoki, and decided to go ahead in tribute to his mother, who passed away at the age of just 43.

Following his performance, X Factor creater and judge Simon Cowell praised Louise for his bravery. The judges and the audience gave Louis a standing ovation.

Looking visibly moved, having lost his own mother last year, Simon said: “Louis, I have to say I’ve known you for six years. The bravery of what you’ve done. I respect you as an artist, as a person and your mum was so proud of you and she was so excited for the performance. She’s looking down on you tonight.”

Before he left the stage, Louis could be seen blowing a kiss into the air to his mother. The singer said he had been overwhelmed by the support his had received following his mother’s death. He has thanked fans for their support on social media.

Louis is Johannah’s eldest child. She was a mother of seven, including two year old twins Ernest and Doris. She had also been thrilled to become a grandma to Louis’ son Freddie, who is ten months old.

The singer’s ex-girlfriend, Freddie’s mother Briana Jungworth, has also paid tribute to Johannah. She said that her heart ached, adding that she aspires to be just as good a mother to Freddie as Johannah was to her children.
