Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher is understood to have suffered a heart attack on board a flight from London to Los Angeles. The 60 year old actress received CPR from other passengers in a bid to save her.
While it is not known if she had felt ill on the Transatlantic flight, her cardiac arrest came just quarter of an hour before the plane was due to land. A paramedic on board the flight came forward when flight attendants called out for anyone with medical experience to come to their assistance. Ms Fisher was then bluelighted to hospital as soon as the aircraft landed.
Ms Fisher was in the middle of a book tour to publicise her autobiography the Princess Diarist. So far, the actresses representatives have not made any comment about her health.
Her memoirs are based upon diaries which she wrote while she was playing the iconic role of Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. While the pair had always denied that anything went on between them, Ms Fisher revealed that she and her co-star Harrison Ford had a three month affair while they were shooting the film. At the time, she was just 19 and he was 33.
The actress Anna Akana, had also been onboard the flight. She said on Twitter: “Don’t know how else to process this but Carrie Fisher stopped breathing on the flight home. Hope she’s gonna be OK.”
She added that thank you should be said to the United flight crew and the doctor and nurse passengers who helped Ms Fisher until she could be taken to hospital.
Fans of Ms Fisher have immediately taken to social media to wish her a speedy recovery. One wrote: “Praying hard for Carrie Fisher. Please let her be ok.” Meanwhile, another wrote: “Sending healing thoughts and prayers to Carrie Fisher.”
