The slew of updates with the addition of new features continues and WhatsApp is back with the announcement of rolling out 2 new features for its app. The instant messaging app will now be surfacing the much-anticipated picture-in-picture support. Apart from this, texts can now be set as status messages by the users on the application. These features will be accessible on Android as well iPhone.
In recent times, the Facebook-owned app has been attempting to get in several new features on its app. Of which, the most conversed one has been the feature “WhatsApp for Business” that will enable firms have confirmed accounts to make conversation with their consumers. Coming back to the new features, let’s have a glimpse what all they have got for us.
Initially, taking about the picture-in-picture support by WhatsApp, the users will be allowed to resize the window of video calling. Also, the video can be moved to the corner by the user if he/she wants to multi-task. Reportedly, the company had initiated validating the picture-in-picture feature this year, in July, on Android smartphones. And after that several mobile applications have incorporated this famous feature on their platforms; the latest Apple iPhones too have this new service.
Coming to the other new feature, it is the facility to add text-only updates as one’s WhatsApp status. Earlier, only videos and images were allowed to be set as status updates. Nevertheless, now the users can have a text cover if they wished to write something.
In the recent stable version of WhatsApp build, the users will be allowed to choose the background color and include texts. For iOS devices, the version is 2.17.52, where for Android, it is v2.17.323. Analogous to the image status, the text status as well will remain for a day (24 Hours). These new features will be gradually made available to on the stable builds.
In addition to these, the instant messaging app has pronounced the rollout of a Business-oriented functionality, which might be a paid service in future. This is an attempt by Facebook to create income from the messaging app. WhatsApp is also supposedly intending to roll out a UPI-based payments system in India.
